In the PPP-ésn study on ICT integration in education, over 70% of those responsible for ICT in schools pointed to the lack of knowledge and know-how on the part of teachers as being a barrier to objectives set for ICT use.

In both French and German speaking Switzerland there are two initiatives which offer ICT courses for in-service teacher trainers as well as general help and guidance in the field.

Most training of teachers in ICT use takes place in in-service training courses, a few of which may be obligatory.
