Further education

Perspektiven

In comparison with educational systems specialised in the primary school levels and the lower secondary level (compulsory education), the preparation for occupational learning as well as occupational training are less well developed in situations of disablement. The possibilities of post- training and occupational opportunities depend on the degree of disablement.

Swiss Federal Legislation governing Occupational Training

In regard to young people encountering difficulties at school and subsequent training, the legislation governing occupational training, dated 01 January 2004 provides a possibility of undertaking initial apprenticeship training of two years and receive a Swiss Federal Certificate in an variety of trades.

There exist other provisions for young people who fail to satisfy the requirements of being awarded a Swiss Federal certification, for example practical training under the INSOS regulations.

Occupational Advisories

In all cases, the cantonal centres for occupational advice, and in certain cases the Swiss disablement insurance represent the best resource for occupational choice. Disablement insurance is in future to be provided by the Swiss cantonal disablement insurance offices.

Financial Support

It should be noted, that despite the coming into force of the 'RPT - Réforme de la péréquation financière et de la répartition des tâches' (New organisation of financial settlements and the delegation of assignments) on 01 January 2008, the Swiss disablement insurance remains responsible for distributing benefits and supplementary benefits for initial occupational training for disabled young people qualifying under the criterions of the Swiss federal disablement state insurance scheme (Art. 16 of the Swiss Federal 'LAI - Loi fédérale sur l'assurance-invalidité' (Swiss Federal Legislation governing State Disablement Insurance).
